Who leads Sedbergh Venture?

Sedbergh Venture is led by a team of about 40 volunteer leaders from churches around the country, most of whom come back year after year and so are very familiar with the site and the way that the week runs. The leaders are responsible for organising everything that happens during the week, and looking after everyone who comes. All our leaders have a DBS (formerly CRB) check, and we have a high ratio of leaders to members - typically 1:2 or even higher. Leaders come from all walks of life - some work for churches full-time, but in the past we've had nurses, teachers, engineers, accountants, and even a postman to list a few! Boys' dorms are always led by male leaders, and girls' dorms by female leaders.

The leaders are supported by a team of helpers, who look after the more practical side of the Venture - washing up, cleaning and setting up games for example. The helpers tend to be of student age, and also go through a DBS check before coming on Venture. Many are former members who love the Venture so much that they want to come back as helpers.

Overall leaders

Having recently finished Bible college, Jonny Lee is a curate (trainee minister) for St Andrew's church in Preston. He is married to Katrina and is dad to Joshua, George and Abigail. As well as loving massive cups of Yorkshire Tea, Jonny is a keen Rock Climber and loves spending a week in the summer at Sedbergh Venture.
Formerly a paediatric nurse, Carl Brooks-Plunkett now works for a church in Chapeltown (Sheffield) as a Youth and Families Minister. Carl loves being involved in Sedbergh Venture and looks forward to it all year round. He loves reading and writing and Yorkshire Tea (although maybe not quite as much as Jonny).
